SMS notifications

Automatic and manual SMS to students: activation links, course-start reminders, a note about an issued completion certificate, and free-form messages to one person or a whole cohort. Sent through the FlexWelder platform account (SMSAPI).

When to use

To enable automatic SMS reminders, send a student an activation or password-change link by SMS, write to one person or to everyone enrolled on a course — and check the sending history.

Where

  • Settings: the Settings menu → SMS tab (visible only for a Training Center; hidden for the Instructor and Employee roles)
  • Sending to a person: the student profile → the "Student account" card
  • Sending to a group: the course or edition page → the "SMS to students" button
  • Roles: Owner / Admin / Manager (the group button is not visible to the Instructor).

Automation settings

  1. Open Settings → SMS — the "SMS notifications" card.
  2. "Course-start reminder" — once enabled, set the "Days before start" field (1-14). A daily automation (around 7:00) sends the reminder to students of upcoming editions; each person gets it at most once per edition.
  3. "SMS about an issued certificate" — after a completion certificate / certificate is issued, the student gets an SMS with a link to the Welder's Passport.
  4. Click "Save". Next to it you can see the "Sent this month" counter.

SMS sent by the system

Manual message

  1. To one person: student profile → "Send SMS". The dialog shows the recipient and a "Message text" field with a character and segment counter (460-character limit).
  2. To a whole course: on the course/edition page click "SMS to students" — the same dialog, with the recipient shown as "{course} ({N} people)". After sending, a snackbar sums up: "SMS sent: N" and "No phone: N".

Polish characters shorten an SMS: an ASCII message fits 160 characters per segment, with Polish characters only 70. The segment counter in the dialog shows this live.

SMS history

The "SMS history" card on the SMS tab: Date / Phone / Type / Status / Content. Statuses: Sent (green), Error (red), Test (amber).

Edge cases & errors

  • A student without a phone number: the SMS options are disabled (tooltip "No phone number"); in a group send, people without a number are skipped and reported in the summary.
  • Test mode: when the platform has no SMSAPI key configured, messages don't go out but do land in the history with the "Test" status — the settings then show a warning.
  • The result of each action shows in a snackbar (e.g. "Email sent · SMS sent").

FAQ

  • Do I need my own contract with an SMS provider? No — sending goes through the FlexWelder platform account.
  • Why does an SMS have the "Test" status? The environment runs in test mode (no SMSAPI key) — the content lands in the history but is not sent.
